A Syrian band plants happiness in children's hearts

A simple act of kindness can make a tremendous impact on a person's life especially if that person was a child.

On Tuesday March 11th, "Tanjaret Daghet" visited one of War Child Holland - Lebanon's Child Friendly Spaces within a UNHCR refugee-registration zone. The band spent the morning with the children, as they wait for their parents to go through yet another long day of paperwork. They played their songs, and improvised others, as they musically and lyrically interacted with the children by encouraging them to clap, sing, and dance together. The experience was very positive and uplifting, nothing beats seeing these children smile.

From the heart of Syria, from the soul of authentic towns across the country, from the epicenter of a struggle, three musicians came together with one mission... it was ‘Tanjaret Daghet’.

The name ‘Tanjaret Daghet’ is derived from the Arabic term for a pressure pot, which in essence expresses the sentiment of  the world's youth trepidations at this very moment.

‘Tanjaret Daghet’, which came to life in 2008, is the brainchild of the lead singer and bass player Khaled Omran. The band is composed of three musicians, Tarek Khoulouki, guitarist and backing vocalist, Dany Shukri, the drummer, and of course, Khaled Omran.

“For me, music is the simplest way to translate my thoughts. It doesn't matter what language you speak. Music transcends,” says Omran. “It took a few unpleasant circumstances to allow us to become who and what we are today.»

They are fueled with great passion, coupled with authenticity and an unshakable sense of conviction. They come to you, each with their own story from their homeland.

If you can be anything, be kind. If you can help in any way, do not hesitate. It was a great act of kindness for this band to be involved in creating positivity in these children's lives even for few minutes.
